mob city 1

Los Angeles. The City of Angels. And crazy hobos who really, really are pretty loud at 2 in the AM. I may hate certain parts of that city with a passion, but I’ll admit that LA is a town where dreams can be made…and easily broken. There’s a certain seductive quality to Hollywood, and it’s something that’ll be examined in depth in the upcoming Mob City, a show which Frank “The Walking Dead” Darabont has had a heavy hand in producing.

Based on the book L.A. Noir: The Struggle for the Soul of America’s Most Seductive City by John Buntin, Mob City is set after World War 2 where the city is under siege from corrupt elements, gangs, murders and rampant crime. Los Angeles Police Chief William Parker (Neal McDonough) is on a crusade to free the city from the likes of gang leaders Ben “Bugsy” Siegel (Ed Burns) and Mickey Cohen (Jeremy Luke), and he’s ready to take down members of his own police force in order to do so.

In order to do just that, Parker sets up an anti-mob taskforce and waitaminute this sounds kinda familiar. Hell, this sounds like a combination of Gangster Squad and the Untouchables. Which is probably what Mob City is, but seeing as how it’s going the mini-series route, it’ll have more time to develop its cast at least.

Still, the show looks like it has some decent production values, and will be debuting in December in the US of A on the TNT channel. Expect Mob City to most likely find its way to this side of the world in January of 2014.
