It's all dinosaurs and mind games as Pixar reveals even more future plans

As Darryn reported yesterday, Pixar is planning to go shake some undead Mexican maraccas with their next project, Día de los Muertos. Turns out that that’s not the only thing on the horizon for the animation mega studio, as they revealed details of two previously revealed titles, featuring some thunderlizards and mental adventures, during the current CinemaCon (via ThePlaylist).

First up (pardon the pun) is the previously untitled dinosaur project from Up co-director/writer, Bob Peterson, which has been revealed to about an alternate where the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs missed the planet, leaving giant reptiles to flourish and eventually co-exist with humans. The project will now also be titled The Good Dinosaur. Even without the official blurb of “hilarious and heartfelt”, the preceding two sentences was already enough to plaster a grin on my mug, so I can’t wait to see what Peterson produces. He will be sharing the director’s chair with Peter Sohn, an in-house animator who directed the short Partly Cloud which aired before Up. The film is tentatively scheduled for 30 May 2014.

The other project is still going by the laborious working title of The Untitled Pixar Movie That Takes You Inside The Mind and has been described as an immensely “ambitious” project, taking place inside the mind of a young girl, with her emotions being displayed as characters as they embark on a highly imaginative adventure. Monsters Inc director Peter Docter will be at the helm while the script will be provided by Toy Story 3‘s Michael Arndt. Based on the Buzz and Woody’s last adventure, I’m expecting there to be at least one scene in this film that leaves grown men crying like they they’re little boys again and somebody just stepped on their sandcastle, stole their ice cream and kicked them against the shin. The film has a pretty far away release date of 19 June 2015, presumably to give the team enough time to produce all that “ambitious” imagery.
