It's guns and girls in these 7 new images from Total Recall

I’m not a fan of Len Wiseman, whose work I feel is the directorial equivalent of an empty Tupperware bowl: it comes in pretty colours but totally vacuous and plastic. I’m even less of a fan of reboots, especially when they’re rebooting a true genre classic.

And yet, there is something about the new Total Recall that is somehow appealing to me. Maybe it’s the fact that Collin Farrel has been doing some of the best work of his career lately, or the fact that the few action scenes we’ve seen in the trailer look like they actually had quite a bit of thought put into them.

Either way, I find myself cautiously optimistic at this point.

Call me crazy, but I’d swear that was a gigantic Tony Stark looming behind Collin Farrel in that last pic.

Synopsis:

“Total Recall” is an action thriller about reality and memory, inspired anew by the famous short story “We Can Remember It For You Wholesale” by Philip K. Dick. Welcome to Rekall, the company that can turn your dreams into real memories. For a factory worker named Douglas Quaid (Colin Farrell), even though he’s got a beautiful wife (Kate Beckinsale) who he loves, the mind-trip sounds like the perfect vacation from his frustrating life – real memories of life as a super-spy might be just what he needs. But when the procedure goes horribly wrong, Quaid becomes a hunted man. Finding himself on the run from the police – controlled by Chancellor Cohaagen (Bryan Cranston), the leader of the free world – Quaid teams up with a rebel fighter (Jessica Biel) to find the head of the underground resistance (Bill Nighy) and stop Cohaagen. The line between fantasy and reality gets blurred and the fate of his world hangs in the balance as Quaid discovers his true identity, his true love, and his true fate.

I was on this bandwagon, then you had to reveal that Mars is missing. If it scores high on reviews, I’d give it a bash. Else I’ll wait for the DVD.

Yeah, that is a massive warning klaxon for me as well. I’m hoping that Farrel can carry the film though.

I just hope it isn’t a bland safe performance from him. Of late, he’s been up to some impressive stuff that has some edge about it (Fright Night, London Boulevard, Horrible Bosses) and it’s good to keep it edgy and unpredictable like that. Mix it up.

If he just plays it safe, he runs the risk of heading toward Lorenzon Lamas – ville. It’s a place where everyone has great hair and sparkling teeth but your acting career don’t count for shit
