JK Simmons as Commissioner Gordon

The last major role has been cast for the upcoming Justice League movie and our new Commissioner Gordon is… J. Jonah Jameson? That’s right, following in the footsteps of Gary Oldman’s portrayal of the iconic Gotham police chief is none other than J.K. Simmons, who is most notable to comic book fans as The Daily Bugle’s editor-in-chief, J. Jonah Jameson, from the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy.

Simmons is an excellent actor, and I have no doubts of his capabilities – he did win last year’s best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role in Whiplash – but there’s a lot of cognitive dissonance going on here for me. I thought that Oldman was basically perfect as Commissioner Gordon, but I guess it’s fine that he’s not returning, they’ve already replaced Batman and Alfred.

I think what’s weird for me, and a lot of other people, is that J.K. Simmons was the most perfect J. Jonah Jameson anyone’s ever seen (he even voiced the character in animated shows like Ultimate Spider-Man). So this news means that he’s most likely not going to be returning as Jameson in Marvel and Sony’s collaborative Spider-Man reboot, set for release in 2017. Maybe they should ask Gary Oldman if he’s busy…

Simmons rounds out the Justice League cast, which includes Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as the Flash, and Ray Fisher as Cyborg in the movie, with Amy Adams also returning as Lois Lane. Part one of Justice League opens in November 2017.

I can get use to the cast, just Ezra Miller that i cant get use to, Grant Gustin is already doing such a good job as The Flash, such a waste.

There would be continuity issues if they use anyone from the DC TV Series.
