One of the key things for any actor to do when portraying a real person, is to nail the look and mannerisms of said person. It’s not something that every actor can do and is often seen as the mark of truly great acting when a person can mould themselves into the persona of another. Look at Meryl Streep for perhaps the most obvious brilliance of this in her movie roles.

That’s why when reports were released of James Franco looking to play the role of director Tommy Wiseau in The Disaster Artist, there were many concerns as people felt the actor didn’t quite match up to the look of the iconically terribly director.

For those who aren’t familiar with that name, Tommy Wiseau is the writer, director and producer of the infamous 2003 film, The Room. Wiseau also served as the lead actor in the movie about a love triangle that was filled with so many sub-plots that had nothing to do with the main story and never got resolved. The film is considered to be one of the worst films ever made. So bad in fact that it’s gained a cult following from people that seem to enjoy so-bad-it’s-good cinema. I’m not one of them, I think the movie is horrendous.

This new film is based on The Disaster Artist: My Life Inside The Room, a book written by Tim Bissell and The Room actor Greg Sestero, detailing the experience in the making of the film and the strange antics from the infamous director into what ended up making the film the way it was.

New pics (Source: /Film) has been released of Franco dressed up as Wiseau and people should put their fears to rest, as the resemblance is uncanny. It’s amazing what a wig and make-up can do. While this tells us nothing about the performance that we can expect, we can at least be rest assured that the actor will look the part.

When making a film about the making of a bad movie, it’s understandable if you want to make your adaptation a little bad itself to mock the story you’re telling. Much like Tim Burton’s Ed Wood, which was an excellent film about a terrible director, this film is looking to take this story seriously and make a good movie out of it. Something Wiseau could learn from, considering he is appearing in the film in a cameo role.

The Disaster Artist will also feature Dave Franco playing the role of Sestero and is due for release later this year.
