The Muppets are on a roll it seems. After conquering the box office with a well received film, a sequel is busy being prepared, with a new script underway.
One person who won’t be involved with the sequel however, is film star and co-writer Jason Segel, who has confirmed that he isn’t planning on returning.
“It’s true but it’s totally amicable,” Segel said to Collider. “My goal was to bring The Muppets back. I did what I set out to do, and now I wanna pursue more human-related projects.
“All I wanted to do was to set the stage for them to do whatever they wanted. I’m sure I’ll return in some capacity here and there, but that was half a decade of my life, five years of hard work. I’m ready for a little puppet break.”
It might be for the best as well, as Segel did manage to make certain that the Muppets came first in the revived film, and returning for a sequel could very well overshadow their presence.
Fortunately, screenplay writers Nick Stoller and James Bobin are still around, keep the reinvigorated franchise in safe hands. Might I recommend having Jason Statham in the next film?
Think of the possibilities man…
