JJ Abrams wants to make the Earth disappear with a God Particle!

Just yesterday we heard about JJ Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions teaming up with Paramount for a 1970’s based espionage thriller about chasing Nazis. Now, thanks to Vulture, we learn that the two studios are again looking at joining forces in producing a new science fiction actioner called God Particle.

And clearly making the island in Lost disappear was nothing but a small scale trial run for JJ, because this time he’s looking to pull a David Copperfield on the whole Earth.

Written by Oren Uziel, the same guy who penned the Werewolves vs Vampires vs Zombies vs Aliens vs Humans vs Golden Retrievers (ok, maybe not golden retrievers) action comedy The Kitchen Sink for Sony, God Particle deals with the fallout when an experiment at the Large Hadron Collider apparently causes the entire planet to simply vanish, leaving nothing but a single American space station with its now very terrified crew. When a second spacecraft suddenly appears, the crew are now faced with determining whether it’s friend or foe and whether they have something to do with seemingly impossible planet theft.

The story seems to be just the type of crazy sci-fi premise that JJ Abrams would be attracted to, however we probably shouldn’t expect to see him in the director’s chair. It looks like the film will be made under Paramount’s new super low budget Insurge Pictures productions for a measly $5 million, which is probably not even enough to cover the cost of  Mr Abrams’ hair products. Abrams will probably oversee, while some young up an coming debutante director will more than likely be given the nod.

It certainly sounds intriguing and with the restricted budget it will force whomever gets put in charge to get very creative, which is sometimes when the best films get made. Or you know, the worst films, because the director is a no-talent hack. Only time will tell I guess.

Your last paragraph sums it up very nicely. I do think that this could have the potential to become one of those cult classics, though. Sounds very interesting!
