After a string of cinematic faceplants (with that face more often than not covered in ludicrous makeup), Johnny Depp recently returned to incredible form in Black Mass. And it looks like that winning streak may just continue, based on the star potential alone of his next project. THR is reporting that Depp is looking to produce and star in an adaptation of Fortunately, the Milk, celebrated writer Neil “Sandman” Gaiman’s illustrated fantastical children’s book.

And because Depp and Gaiman’s names aren’t enough to get you in in a tizzy (and they really are), Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz) is currently in negotiations to direct the film, which is being adapted for the screen by Brett McKenzie, one half of Flight of the Conchords and the Oscar-winning composer of The Muppets. That is a whole lot of geeky awesome on one movie, especially for a movie where the source material is decribed as “a story of time travel and breakfast cereal.”

Published in 2013, and illustrated by popular artist Skottie Young, Fortunately, the Milk tells of a father who goes out to get some milk one morning, and then returns home to his children much later with a crazy story involving everything from aliens to time travel. The book, written from the perspective of the children as they recount their father’s crazy day, is a brilliantly whimsical affair, and could be right in the creative wheelhouse for all three men attached to it.

The film will be combination of live-action and CG animation, with animation house Animal Logic (The LEGO Movie) handling the latter.
