With Marvel Studios working full steam ahead on Phase 2 of their plan for world box office domination, it’s easy to forget that there’s another team of marvelous superhero’s that will also be stretching, scorching, clobbering and uh… invisibling our screens again.
Twentieth Century Fox will be rebooting the Fantastic Four in 2015 with Chronicle director Josh Trank at the helm… And that’s actually all the studio has revealed thus far. Luckily though, Mark Millar, Fox’s creative consultant, is not quite so tight lipped.
The comic writer (who himself has written about Marvel’s First Family in comic book form to much critical acclaim not too long ago) spoke to SciFiNow. and revealed how Trank is coming along with the production.
“From what I’ve seen and from talking to him – he and I have had dinner a couple of times and we talk quite regularly as well – he’s contemporising it. I think he’s just making it work for the screen – he’s a great storyteller.
“Chronicle, if you think about it, was similar to Fantastic Four in that it was a bunch of people who were transformed into something more than human – that turned out almost his calling card to come and do something like Fantastic Four.
“What I wasn’t expecting actually was just how funny and likeable he could make this as well as getting the more awesome moments on screen – I use awesome in the traditional British sense and not the California sense awesome, you know? The Ridley Scott moments, and the Fantastic Four really are jaw-dropping in the same way you feel when you saw Alien for the first time. There’s some moments in this – not to be specific – that are actually gonna be phenomenal on screen and stuff you haven’t seen in a superhero movie before.”
Now, if you know Mark Millar, you’ll know that nobody will ever be able to accuse the man of underselling anything, but even with his penchant for hyperbole, after seeing how well Trank handled a “superhero” story in Chronicle, I’m rather excited to see what he does with the Fantastic Four. I mean, surely it can’t be worse than that rubbish second film? That movie turned Galactus into a disgruntled space cloud!
Fantastic Four is scheduled for release on March 6, 2015.

I never liked the movie, nor the original comic series, but this still has me excited. There is a lot they can do with FF, if they take the brave step of not rerunning origin stories again.
