Kurt Russell and more sign up for horror western, BONE TOMAHAWK

Hey, it’s Halloween, and we need to do some news on horror movies, y’know? And while our sources inform us that Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen aren’t doing anything right now, it looks like the old west is going to be home to some flesh-eating action, for the directorial debut of S. Craig Zahler’s horror Western, Bone Tomahawk.

Zahler has managed to snag himself some top notch talent for his upcoming film, as Kurt Russell, Peter Sarsgaard, Richard Jenkins and Jennifer Carpenter will all be slapping leather.

Variety describes the film as a tale that  “follows a sheriff (Russell), a gunslinger, a befuddled oldster (Jenkins) and a cowboy (Sarsgaard) as they attempt to rescue a group of captives (including Carpenter) from a band of cannibalistic troglodytes.”

Zahler has a script in place, a cast and producers in the form of Dallas Sonnier and Jack Heller, with shooting kicking off next year in New Mexico. There’s no distribution partner yet, but the project is being shipped around.

This could be one to watch. Zahler was the writer behind The Incident, and he has a second western in production right now that he contributed to, The Brigands of Rattleborge that has Chan-wook “Old Boy” Park in talks to direct.

And with a seasoned cast behind it, this could be some good ol’ fun when it gets made.
