In a recent report on actor Billy Crystal (When Harry met Sally) joining the late Muppets creator Jim Henson’s Company production of Which Witch, a few beans of information were spilled that are truly awesome. Apparently a few movies were listed as being in production; one of those being none other than a sequel to the 1986 dark fantasy Labyrinth that starred a rather freaky and much younger David Bowie! I remember watching Labyrinth and being truly scared, not by the story but by David Bowie’s perm. For those who don’t remember the story:

Fifteen-year-old Sarah accidentally wishes her baby half-brother, Toby, away to the Goblin King Jareth who will keep Toby if Sarah does not complete his Labyrinth in thirteen hours.

Now it may sound like a movie for kiddies but it certainly was accessible to adults too with its dark tone and rather hectic puppets (think Dark Crystal). The news was brought to light when Crystal was interviewed about his role in Which Witch, a movie based on the 1979 Eva Ibbotson book. Crystal said:

“When Brian Henson called me about it, I didn’t know the book. But it’s a fantastic story, and I brought in a wonderful writer, Michael Feldman, and we’ve written a terrific and inventive script. I’ll play a character as well, which will be great fun because he actually has two eyes.”

News that a sequel to the 1982 Fraggle Rock was also in production was also dropped which makes me smile as I loved the first! It really would seem that the movie and gaming industry is in love with sequels/remakes which I have no problem with. I mean I am waiting with baited breath for either a remaking or sequel to NeverEnding Story! What would you like to see remade?
