Leonardo DiCaprio talks THE REVENANT and how it will match up against new STAR WARS

With 2015 coming to an end we are in store for an impressive line up of movies to look forward, with some of the bigger of these scheduled for a December release – which is perfect for studios to cash when attendance numbers naturally start to increase. Two of these movies that are expected to top the box office ranking are The Revenant and Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the latter of which has already broken ticket pre-sales records!

Leonardo DiCaprio, star of the highly anticipated feature The Revenant has sat down with the people at Yahoo to talk about the movie and here’s what he had to say:

It’s going to be one of the most unique film-going experiences that audiences have seen in modern times

I have no doubt that it will be. DiCaprio has been such a solid source of impressive performances in basically anything he works on that i have the utmost confidence in him and almost instantly start getting excited when I see he is attached to a project.

What will make this movie stand out though? Well to start off there is the story line, which being based on real events automatically makes it all the more intriguing for me.

DiCaprio stars as Hugh Glass, an 1820s frontiersman who’s left for dead by his fellow travelers after a vicious bear attack. Glass wakes ups under a pile of dirt in the freezing wilderness, and after recovering, he sets out on a lonely, treacherous journey back to civilization — where he plans on enacting his revenge on those who abandoned him, especially a fellow trapper named John Fitzgerald (played by Tom Hardy).

Add to that a great supporting cast in Tom Hardy, Will Poulter, Domhnall Gleeson, Lukas Haas, Kristoffer Joner and Brad Carter. Add director Alejandro G. Iñárritu (Birdman) and the fact that he and cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki shot the movie entirely using natural light, giving the film a very unique feel and I think you will agree that The Revenant is lining up to be on of 2015’s stand out hits.

When asked about the intense Bear attack scene that can be enjoyed from the trailer this is what DiCaprio had to say:

Well, I’m not going to give any specifics on how we did it — you’ll figure it out on your own. But I will tell you it involved cables, it involved me flying around the forest, and it involved a tremendous amount of rehearsal. And it was pretty agonizing to do. [Those scenes] — amongst many other sequences — were some of the more difficult things I’ve ever had to do in my entire career. But the end result is going to be one of the most immersive experiences audiences will ever have with what it would be like to come face-to-face with an animal of that magnitude that is incredibly primal. It is absolutely startling and shocking, and it is the closest thing to documentary filmmaking — but in a completely stylized way that a lot of people never experienced.

OK so all of this points to a great movie in The Revenant, I’m sure their were never really any doubts about that. But how will the movie do releasing so close to what is easily the most anticipated movie of the year in Star Wars: The Force Awakens?

Here is what Leo has to say about that:

There’s always room at the top. I’m going to be in line for Star Wars as well. What’s great about this time of year is, as you know, they save the best for last in most cases. And hopefully, it just means more people are excited to go to the movies. I think that people know this time of year is where a lot of great pieces of art are going to come out. I would never think that we’d be able to compete with Star Wars — that’s something that’s embedded in our cultural DNA. But I think when people begin to hear about this movie, they’ll want to go see it. And that’s all we can hope for.

That’s a very amicable response from DiCaprio there and he certainly has a point. While these guys certainly don’t look too concerned, either way its a win for movie lovers all round.

The Revenant releases on December 25, 2015 while Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be releasing December 18, 2015.

Yeah, this is one that I am looking forward to…A LOT! DiCaprio seems to get better with each project he takes on, must really want to get his hands on that elusive golden statue.
