Lionsgate are reviving the SAW franchise with SAW LEGACY

So Lionsgate want to play a game and boy have they been winning that game – with the franchise grossing $873 million worldwide on an estimated $64 million total budget for the series. That’s no small feat but unfortunately as much as they are winning, we are the ones on the losing end.

Sure there is a place in the world of all things movies for these types of movies and Saw is probably one of the better of these types of horror movies – or “Torture Porn” as it has been categorized by some. The problem is that when you start producing movies simply for financial gain and at the expense of quality and substance then there really is just one winner here. Based on what I have seen from the Saw movies that I have watched after the second installment to the franchise was simply a waste of time. Unfortunately Lionsgate did not get any tips from watching the whole Lance Armstrong ordeal unfold and just like Mr. Integrity the studio have decided to bring Jigsaw out of retirement with Saw: Legacy – even though it’s clearly a bad idea.

Granted this is purely down to my disdain towards any of the saw movies, with the exception of Saw 1 & 2. It’s like they took a page out of the Final Destination handbook and just like Final Destination, they just couldn’t leave well enough alone. Now lets look at the alternative, and they actually wipe the slate clean and produce a truly gory and horrifying masterpiece. Well Saw: Legacy if you do that, I will take on my own personal nightmare and start eating veggies! Of course I hope that they do make a great movie, but really I wont be fooled that easily.

Now we don’t know if Saw: Legacy will be a reboot or a sequel but what we do know is that Sorority Row and Piranha 3DD screenwriters, Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger are writing the script and joining them as executive producers are the director and writer of the first “Saw,” James Wan and Leigh Whannell.
