Daniel Craig - New James Bond movie Casino Royale

Remember how Daniel Craig said he would rather slash his own wrists than do another James Bond movie? Of course, you do. We and all the other news publications remind you about it every time we talk about how uncertain the future is for the 007 franchise after the soft reception for Spectre and the film’s very final feeling closing moments.

Well, it seems that future is looking up. At least for Craig, who appeared at the New Yorker Festival (via BMD) and revealed to the crowd in attendance that he’s starting to regret that comment a bit now as he was just a bit tired at the time.

“They say that shit sticks, and that definitely stuck [laughs]. It was the day after filming [stopped on Spectre]. I’d been away from home for a year.”

“When asked 20-feet from the end of a marathon whether you would do another marathon, the answer is simple. It’s like “No, I won’t”. But the things I get to do on a Bond movie, and the type of work it is — there is no other job like it. And were I to stop doing it, I would miss it terribly.”

So does that mean that Craig is down for another go around as Bond? Recent rumours had stated that producers had apparently offered Craig an eye-watering $150 million to return to the franchise. The actor soundly shot down that rumour as rubbish, and indicated that money isn’t the only reason he’s still up for playing the part.

“It’s a good gig. I enjoy it… I love this job, I get a massive kick out of it. And if I can keep getting a kick out of it, I will.”

Yes, that’s certainly not a definitive answer, but it’s whole lot more positive than he has been in the past. Craig did confirm though that there are currently “no conversations” about the next Bond film as “everyone’s a bit tired”. So maybe this is just Craig getting ahead of those conversation when they inevitably do happen, so that he has a nice position to negotiate from? Sounds like just the type of sneaky tactic a superspy would use.
