Looks like Paramount have begun reaching for that JACK REACHER sequel after all

A short while back the news broke that despite garnering some decent reviews (Hey, look! One of them even belongs to us), and also giving us the best cinematic display of Small Man Syndrome we’ve seen in ages, Tom Cruise’s Jack Reacher would be a solo effort instead of the franchise starter that it had been envisioned as. That was unless the film could improve on its $67 million domestic box office takings to hit the $250 million mark worldwide.

Well, it looks like somebody over at Paramount has been crunching some numbers, and things are beginning to look up on the sequel front.

While nothing concrete has been committed to yet, Paramount and partners Skydance are reportedly “in the process of building the scaffolding for another installment” according to Collider. This despite the fact that Jack Reacher is still about $50 million short of that $250 million target.

No, this change of heart was not due to Tom Cruise threatening to pay a visit to their furniture. As Deadline reports, Jack Reacher has now become the 19th film of Tom Cruise’s career to cross the $200 million mark, which has made Paramount finally realize that this Tom Cruise kid is the real deal and can make us a hell of a lot of bank.

With Jack Reacher helmer Chris McQuarrie set to probably direct Cruise again in Mission: Impossible 5, there’s no telling when or even if a deal would be made to bring the wrtiter turned director back for the proposed sequel. I liked what McQuarrie did, especially that old school styled car chase, and would be pretty happy to see him return to the hot seat.

Now the question of course remains which of Lee Childs’ Reacher novels Paramount would look to adapt next, and how will they work in another ridiculous line about how famously diminutive Tom Cruise looks like he can kill somebody with one punch.

Of course they’re gonna make a sequel, the most expensive thing about the first movie was Tom’s salary, the rest looked as if it was made on a shoestring budget and it did pretty good box office.
Problem is, Tom is not Jack Reacher, don’t get me wrong, he was a pretty decent character in the movie, just not Jack Reacher from the novels.
