I would like to think that the initial pitch for upcoming romantic fantasy drama Age of Adaline was a sort of Curious Case of Benjamin Button but with Blake Lively instead of Brad Pitt. And then somebody probably noticed a lot of very expensive CGI was used to change Pitt’s age, and said “Ah, screw it! Let’s just keep her the same age and surround her with old people”.

Whether that’s true or not, having a lead character stuck at the same age for 80 years while everybody around her gets old and dies already makes for an intriguing premise for a movie. Throw in her finding love from a man who just so happens to be the son of her now aged first flame, and you have some real romantic drama meat to be chewed on in this story. The fact that the old guy is actually Han Solo is just gravy.

Food metaphors aside, this actually looks fairly interesting, and if director Lee Toland (Celeste and Jesse Forever) can keep it from getting too schmaltzy or morose, it should make for good viewing.

After miraculously remaining 29 years old for almost eight decades, Adaline Bowman (Blake Lively) has lived a solitary existence, never allowing herself to get close to anyone who might reveal her secret. But a chance encounter with charismatic philanthropist Ellis Jones (Michiel Huisman) reignites her passion for life and romance. When a weekend with his parents (Harrison Ford and Kathy Baker) threatens to uncover the truth, Adaline makes a decision that will change her life forever.

Two things to mention here: 1) It looks we just found in Anthony Ingruber our new top contender for a young Han Solo movie, and 2) If this movie doesn’t end with Harrison Ford chopping off Blake Lively’s head to absorb her life force in a hectic electrical storm while a Queen soundtrack blares in the background, I’m going to be gravely disappointed.

Age of Adaline also stars Ellen Burstyn and Michael Huisman. It is scheduled for release in the US on April 24, 2015.
