After the excellent introduction of the Black Panther to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Captain America: Civil War, Marvel is rapidly looking to put together the final pieces of their planned Black Panther solo film, that will tell us more about this exciting character and what makes him tick.

We already know that Creed’s Ryan Coogler is stepping into the director’s chair of the film which stars Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa, the prince of the African nation of Wakanda, who must take up the legacy of his father and lead the nation through these tumultuous times in the Marvel universe.

And no story is complete without some sort of love interest and it seems Marvel may have now found their person to play the object of the Panther’s affection in Lupita Nyong’o. No official statements have been released, though according to Variety it is understood things are only at the discussion phase at this moment.  It might be early to speculate, but it would certainly be a great opportunity for Lupita to attach herself to a winning franchise and one which I’m sure few actors would want to pass up. There is also no word on what role she will be playing outside of ‘love interest’.

The Oscar winning actress has been busy of late and has most recently lent her voice to Star Wars: the Force Awakens as Maz Kanata and The Jungle Book as Mother Wolf Raksha. She can be seen next in Disney’s Queen of Katwe opposite David Oyelowo and is also attached to star in DreamWorks’ Intelligent Life.

And in addition to Lupita, there are also reports from THR that Michael B. Jordan has also joined the cast for this movie, which will certainly make it an impressive line-up for the film indeed, which Marvel claims will have a 90% African/African-American cast – a first for any super-hero movie! Many actually thought that Jordan would be in for the main role when Coogler – who worked opposite Jordan in Creed – was announced as director, but in the end Marvel tapped Chadwick. And he definitely delivered in the role. It is believed Jordan will be in-line to play a villain in the film, alongside  – which would certainly make for an interesting dynamic as he has a lot of scene stealing potential.

The film is set for release on Feb 16, 2018 and so there is time for the actress to work around her schedule to possibly fit the movie in. After some incredible moments in the most recent Captain America film of the character, I am certainly amped to see more of what the Black Panther has to offer.
