When it came to who was the most badass or most cool or even just had a good personal story arc in Captain America: Civil War, most people would put their respective votes in for Black Panther, Spider-Man, Winter Soldier, Captain America or Falcon. But if you were to pick one character that met all those criteria, there would only be one answer: Black Widow.

And that’s really nothing new for Scarlett Johansson’s Russian super-spy, who has shown off incredible chemistry with practically everybody in the MCU and has been stealing scenes from her super-powered peers ever since she first cleared out that corridor in spectacular fashion in Iron Man 2. Since then the character has become about as popular as a Marvel hero can be, and yet she’s never been more than a co-star in another hero’s movie. Hell, for the longest time she never even got her own proper action figure. And the fact that she’s arguably the most consistently bankable Hollywood star that Marvel has on their payroll makes that oversight even more glaring – especially in the light of all the talks of equality in Tinsel Town recently. But it would seem that times they are a-changing… finally!

In an interview with Deadline about Captain America: Civil War’s box office performance, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige was asked about the prospect of solo movies for characters like Black Widow and had some good news for fans.

DEADLINE: You’ve got a bunch of characters in this movie from Falcon and War Machine and Black Widow and Hawkeye, who have so far guest starred in movies with another characters title above the fold. Is there one destined to get a solo movie down the line?

FEIGE: We’ve announced the next nine movies, 10 counting Civil War, through the end of 2019. Where we go beyond that are ongoing discussions that we’ll focus on in the next few years because we have a lot to do before then. Of the characters that you’ve just mentioned I would say certainly the one creatively and emotionally that we are most committing to doing is Black Widow.

We think she’s an amazing character. We think Scarlett Johansson’s portrayal of her is amazing. She’s a lead Avenger and has amazing stories in her own right to tell that we think would be fun to turn into a stand-alone franchise.

With Marvel’s slate currently being chock and block full – especially since Ant-Man and the Wasp and Spider-Man: Homecoming also got sandwiched into their Phase 3 plans – we probably shouldn’t hold our breath on seeing Johansson headline a solo Black Widow movie until after Avengers: Infinity War – Part 2 wraps in 2019. But it would be pretty cool to kick off Phase 4 though with Black Widow. Hell, maybe they can bring Hawkeye into the mix as well, as they clearly share a lot of history together. Or maybe even dig Nick Fury out of whatever dark corner of the MCU he was hiding in during Civil War and make this a proper superspy movie.

What do you guys think? Would you like to see a solo Black Widow movie?
