Armie Hammer should really be a bigger movie star than he already is. I mean, the guy’s name is literally “Military instrument to hit you on the head with”. How cool is that?! While Hammer is a respected actor who always turns in a solid performance, both times he’s fronted a major blockbuster – in The Lone Ranger and The Man From U.N.C.L.E. – the overall film hasn’t netted him the success he must have hoped for.

So what’s a talented young actor like Hammer to do? Simple. Pull off one of the ol’ high concept single-location/single actor, seat-of-your-pants thrillers – which, coincidentally, is referred to in the biz as a “Bottle Movie” – that have regularly been such successful showcases (See: Gravity, The Shallows, All Is Lost, Moon, 127 Hours, etc.). And Hammer’s bottle movie is Mine, which is surprisingly not a seagull-centric Finding Nemo spinoff, but rather the story of a US soldier who gets stuck and has to survive in a desert minefield for 52 hours.

Check it out below:

This action-packed military thriller stars Armie Hammer (Free Fire, The Man From U.N.C.L.E.) as a U.S. soldier who, stranded in the desert for 52 hours after a mission falls apart, must fight for survival against his enemies, the hostile environment, and the creeping psychological toll of his treacherous situation.

Well, that could either go spectacularly wrong or be completely amazing. The movie, I mean, not Hammer’s character’s position. He’s pretty much screwed there. I have tonnes of faith in Hammer’s ability to carry this material, but it all just comes down to whether the script and directing is also up to the task, something which I can’t get too much of a feel for in just this trailer.

I’m actually also hoping that this movie takes a page out of The Martian’s book by having his character MacGyver up different ways of keeping himself alive and in one piece using just the tools he has at hand. Pull that off properly and this movie could really blow up. Hopefully not literally.

Mine is co-directed by Fabio Guaglione and Fabio Resinaro, and also stars Annabelle Wallis, Tom Cullen, Juliet Aubrey, and Geoff Bell. It is scheduled to open on 7 April.

  1. Ugh, please don’t tell me they’re doing that overdone Hollywood trope where mines don’t explode if you don’t step off them. That’s so overused and so inaccurate.
Bouncing Betties did that, regular mines don’t.

Myth actually started in WW2 with S-mine aka bouncing betties, they went off 4 second after they were stepped on regardless if the foot is remove or not.

Also the whole evaporation BS, mine have relatively small explosive charge and crap load of shrapnel. His buddy would be alive and they both would be on the ground full of holes and bleeding.

Yup, very silly that they kept portraying it that way in movies. I get that it creates tension in the movie, blah blah. But in a time when movies are doing their very best to portray realism, they carry on doing this.

Jip excusable in an pre-internet era movie or a non-serious/realistic movie.

This (I will call it now POS) movie the screenwriter could have even bothered to do the most basic 10 minute research of the thing after which the movie is named.

I suspend belief when I watch superhero, science-fiction or fantasy movies. But when it comes to a movie like this, I struggle to NOT point out the errors in realism they have made.

Why I hated Interstellar, so called best physicists in the world explain time dilation. Then completely ignores what they just explained and goes blundering into the black hole like a Scooby-do cartoon.

Seriously, make time and a plan and watch it. I’d heard good things, so I had very high expectations. Not only did it meet them, it exceeded them.
