Hollywood has thrived on disaster stories for pretty much as long as there’s been a Hollywood. The combination of human drama and big screen spectacle has always made for ripe cinematic fodder. Throw in those infamous words “based on a true story”, and you have the potential for one gripping time at the movies. And that seems to be the case Deepwater Horizon.

Teaming up once again after their great work on Lone Survivor (also based on a true story, by the by), Deepwater Horizon sees director Peter Berg and star Mark Wahlberg tackling the 2010 BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, which would go on to become the largest man-made disaster in history. But instead of the long range helicopter shots and pics of oiled up animals we got fed on our news cycle at the time, this movie is going to take us into the drilling platform, right next to the men and women who were caught up in this calamity first hand, many of whom losing their lives.

And now we have a brand new trailer for Deepwater Horizon to show us exactly how its going to get that done. Admittedly the new trailer tries a little too hard with its music to get a soppy response, but there’s no denying the tense looking visuals or its appealing cast. If Berg keeps the saccharine flag-waving under control, this could be really good.

Check out the new trailer below.

Also released recently is a series of moody character posters showing off that previously mentioned impressive cast.

Deepwater Horizon also stars Kurt Russell, John Malkovich,Dylan O’Brien, Gina Rodriguez, and Kate Hudson, and is scheduled to open on September 30, 2016.
