When it comes to upcoming superhero movies, there’s one that simply dwarfs all the others: X-Men: Days of Future Past. Yes, it may not have any Ultrons or Batmans (Batmen?), but it does have the biggest cast of superheroes ever assembled on screen. And as part of Empire magazine’s 25th year anniversary, the publication has released 25 exclusive covers, each one giving us a close, and in some cases first look at all the principal characters including one very surprising addition.
Before we get to the massive tsunami of images, I have to admit that while what we’ve seen from this film thus far has had me very excited, some of these newly unveiled costume designs are just not very good and has dampened my mood just a tad. Check out my comments below each pic to see what I mean.

So what do you guys think of these costumes? Personally, I am concerned a bit that Singer seems to be taking a step back in costume design. Understandably, half of the costumes are supposed to be continuations of the looks established in his original trilogy, but when it comes to comic book movies we have long since moved past having to tone everything down. Modern audiences have no problem accepting and even embracing on-screen characters who are as bright and impossibly garbed as their comic book counterparts, and in fact expect it now. This rather boring homogenization of character/costume design takes away one of comic books’ strongest selling points, and I can’t help but wonder if this approach would still have been adopted had Matthew Vaughn not dropped out of directing.
X-Men: Days of Future Past will be time-sliding into cinemas on May 23, 2014, and stars *deep breath* Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Michael Fassbender, James Avoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Halley Berry, Nicholas Hoult, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Peter Dinklage, Omar Sy, Daniel Cudmore, Fan Bingbing, Boo Boo Stewart, Adan Canto, Evan Peters, Josh Helman, Lucas Till and Evan Jonigkeit.

Blink looks really good, as does Iceman, The rest don’t really stand out very much.

Wow, last sentinel looks awesome, sure it’s something to do with nanotech type stuff. Some of the costumes are just plain terrible though.

Ellen Page may complain that the magazine used her likeness.

That last sentinel reminds me of the robot that attacked Thor.

One could give Ian McKellan a tutu to wear and he’d rock it like a boss!
As with some of the other costumes, I’m pretty sure they’ll save the best reveals (Sunspot/Iceman etc)for the film itself. They were probably commissioned for X amount of photos from the film for these covers, so they had to put Rogue in… OR Singer did a massive troll move and is saving her to be badass later (please?)…
I’m a little confused with Wolverine at the moment though…
—spoilers—
So he lost his claws in the present timeline and gained bone claws correct? so then why does he have bone claws in what I can only deduce is the “First Class 2” timeline Wolverine[before Origins etc]? Is he going to lose his claws again..? or is that just a mess up? One could justify having claws in the future due to technology/magneto/whatever… guess we’ll just have to wait and see…

First Class technically takes place before he has the adamantium bonded to his bones, hence the bone claws. He gains the adamantium (shown in X-Men 2) then loses it in The Wolverine. Sometime after that he somehow gets it back again, in time for the far future timeline. Make sense?

That is exactly how I figured it so I concur. Also we know that they know where they can get more adamantium and could easily get his claws re-coated.

ah yeah… somehow I assumed it’d be after origins. This should be an interesting wolverine I think.
