So apparently Gotham, FOX’s new pre-Batman Batman show (because that’s really what it is), is pretty good. And for a TV series that first appeared to me and many others to be nothing more than a badly thought out milking of the bat-cow, that’s a very pleasant surprise. One of the reasons I wasn’t very taken with the concept, was how FOX was now trying to create this interconnected, overly coincidental world where all of future Batman’s enemies were running around with each other, back when the only things Bruce Wayne was fighting were puberty and acne.

However, all the promos I’ve seen have really got me to warm up to these new, younger version of one of comic-dom’s most famed rogues galleries, and none more so than this new villain-centric teaser trailer.

Before there was Batman, there was “Gotham.” Everyone knows the name Commissioner Gordon. He is one of the crime world’s greatest foes, a man whose reputation is synonymous with law and order. But what is known of Gordon’s story and his rise from rookie detective to Police Commissioner? What did it take to navigate the multiple layers of corruption that secretly ruled Gotham City, the spawning ground of the world’s most iconic villains? And what circumstances created them – the larger-than-life personas who would become Catwoman, The Penguin, The Riddler, Two-Face and The Joker?

Gotham sees Ben McKenzie as Detective James Gordon, Donal Logue as his partner Harvey Bullock, Jada Pinkett Smith as gang boss Fish Mooney, David Mazouz as the young Bruce Wayne, Sean Pertwee as manservant Alfred, Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin, and Camren Bicondova as young Selina Kyle/the future Catwoman.

Sean Pertwee is the last person I’d expect for Alfred
