With just over a month to go until it releases, the second Hobbit film is doing what it does best: Cranking up the marketing engine. The onslaught has already begun, with posters, quick clips and other material invading middle Internet. But the big gun has been saved for last, as the latest trailer for the film has just dropped in.

The second in a trilogy of films adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien, “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” continues the adventure of the title character Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) as he journeys with the Wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen) and thirteen Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) on an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor.

For a three minute piece of promotional video, there’s a ton of content on show here. From Thorin fighting with everyone, Martin Freeman expressing more doubt as Bilbo to another agonizingly fantastic glimpse of the Benedict Cumbermatch voiced Smaug, this middle film is building up to something big.

If the first Hobbit film set all the pieces for another massive confrontation, the the Desolation of Smaug looks like it’s going to arrange them all into something magnificent before the third film arrives in this new trilogy.

The Desolation of Smaug also stars Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, Orlando Bloom, Cate Blanchett, Evangeline Lilly and many more actors. It’s out December 15.
