Oh, you just got to love that ol’ PR switcheroo of “Oh but I didn’t say that” when you clearly did. The latest culprit? Master Blaster Michael Bay, who is now claiming that it was all just a boo boo that one time when he nearly caused the internet to break in half due to nerd rage.

If you recall, the entire storm in turtle shell, came about when Bay, who is producing the new Jonathan Liebesmann directed Ninja Turtles, a reboot of the classic 80’s cartoon and comic book, revealed that instead of being turtles mutated by a strange serum, these new turtles would actually be aliens. Who look like turtles. And are ninjas. Alrighty then.

Recently though, its been revealed that a new writer was brought on board to provide a new rewritten screenplay, plus the film’s logo was spotted at CinemaCon bearing the original title of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. This begged the question if Bay and co had actually also changed their stance to actually listening to fans’ gripes instead of just proscribing some cold medicine?

Well, yes and no.

Chatting to Moviefone, Bay revealed that the turtles were indeed back to being mutants, kind of sort of like they always were meant to be.

“There was that quote saying that we’re making [the Ninja Turtles as] aliens. We’re not, It’s the ooze! It’s from the original source material. These are from the original writers, and I never went out to correct myself in the press. I do listen to the fans and I do want this to be authentic. I think they’re going to be really happy with this movie. When I see the digital stuff, the turtles look great.”

Wait, so they were never going to be aliens, Bay just said that (I’m guessing for shits and giggles) and then instead of trying to douse the fan fire, he just it let it burn? Yeah, right. Just come out and admit it, Bay. You guys came up with a crap idea, the internet exploded in your face about, you realized that pissing people off is not a good way to get them to watch your movie and so you changed the script.

I’m certainly happy that they’ve listened to reason and gone this route, but this “Ha ha, made you look” excuse is ridiculous.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is directed by Jonathan Liebesmann, stars Megan Fox, Alan Ritchson, Jeremy Howard, Pete Ploszek, Noel Fisher, Will Arnett, Danny Woodburn and will be cowabunga’ing into cinemas on June6, 2014.
