Michael Bay confirms that he will be done with the franchise after making Transformers 5

Despite raking in absurd profits at the box office the popular Transformers franchise seems to have been losing out in other probably more important aspects – like quality.

While Michael Bay is certainly no newcomer to the movie making game and has directed some of Hollywood’s biggest blockbusters, there is a feeling among movie lovers that the director is simply replacing filmmaking quality with loud, bright explosions and adding unnecessary time to fill the screen with lots of product placement. That certainly seemed to be the case with Transformers: Age of extinction.

Now personally I didn’t hate Transformers: Age of extinction. It was by far my least favorite of the franchise but it still had some really enjoyable moments for me. Overall though, the movie was just way too long and some of the performances were pretty bad, but I can block that stuff out if the movie is put together well enough to still make it fun and for the most part Bay can still pull that off.

And he’ll get another chance to do that, as Bay has nowofficially confirmed that he will return to direct the fifth installment to the franchise, after which he says he will walk away from the Transformers empire for good. It certainly isn’t a surprise that Paramount would get Bay back in the director’s seat after the huge financial success that the previous movies have enjoyed. Transformers: Age of extinction alone raked in a very impressive $1.104 billion worldwide, making it the highest-grossing film of 2014 and the second highest-grossing film in the Transformers series.

Speaking to Rolling Stone this is what the famous director had to say:

I’m doing Transformers … 5, is it? Transformers, I still have a great time. It’s fun to do a movie that 100 million people will see. But this is the last one. I have to pass the reins to someone else. I know,” admitted Bay. “J.J. [Abrams] told me, ‘You’re the only guy that could do this.’ But it’s time to move on. One more.

Now this isn’t the first time that Bay has stated he is walking away from Transformers. In fact the director has made the statement that he is done with the franchise after making both Transformers: Dark of the Moon and Transformers: Age of Extinction – so lets just take this latest promise with a pinch of salt perhaps.

Undoubtedly the studio will try to get as much traction as they can with this popular franchise and there can be more movies to expect in years to come (they already have a whole team working on them), so I think the more important question we should be asking is just who exactly should they get to take over if he does step down?
