Cosmic Motors

As two decades of celluloid collateral (and brain) damage can attest, Michael Bay loves to blow up shiny stuff. And for one of his upcoming gigs, he may just be getting the shiniest stuff to blow up yet. Bay has been working for a while now on producing a feature film adaptation of Cosmic Motors, a 2007 printed collection of futuristic vehicle designs set in the fictional Galaxion galaxy by veteran car designer Daniel Simon. Having designed plenty of vehicles for big budget movies like Tron: LegacyOblivion and Captain America: The First Avenger – yes, he designed that sweet Red Skull-mobile – Simon’s designs caught the eye of Bay who now wants to build a narrative up around these vehicles and the fictional world they exist in.

And according to a report from Variety, Bay has tapped rapidly up and coming screenwriter Kyle Ward to create that world. Ward penned the script on Machete Kills as well as the currently-in-production video game adaptation Agent 47. He is also set for another video game movie, Kane & Lynch, recently completed the script on the next Underworld movie, and is also currently working on the script for an original big budget, fantasy action-adventure based on the Arabian Knights. With such a full plate, it’s uncertain just when Ward would be slotting in Cosmic Motors.

Here’s the book’s official synopsis, as well as a few examples of the incredible vehicles found within. You can find more pics, as well as lots more info about the designs on Simon’s website.

Come explore the vehicle designs of a far away galaxy called Galaxion where futuristic concepts exist in everyday life. Nine different spaceships, pods, race cars, giant trains, warships and balloons from various planets of the Galaxion system are shown from concept to completion. Daniel Simon is an established senior car designer who has spent the last several years focusing his talents on futuristic concepts for such automakers as Bugatti and Lamborghini. In his first book, Cosmic Motors, each chapter shows the design process of a unique vehicle, from the first ideation sketches to the stunningly detailed 3-D models to the final photorealistic full spread renderings. Join Daniel in this virtual world of visionary vehicles!

Yeah same here. Reminds me a bit of Speed Racer, which is one of my guiltiest pleasures.
