Easily the biggest of releases this weekend coming is the sci-fi actiion thriller Edge of Tomorrow. You may have heard that I thought that it really was damn good, a sentiment echoed by most international critics as well. And yet, despite the superb trailers, the great buzz and director Doug Liman’s established track record, I’ve heard/seen several remarking that they’re not interested in seeing it. The reason: Tom Cruise.

Irrespective of his talent and accomplishments as an actor, their dislike of his personal antics (which frankly, are kind of out there) and public persona, means that they just cannot stand to see him in a movie. Even if that movie is one of the best of the year thus far.

So today, what we want to hear from you is whether or not a movie personaility’s personal issues influences your decision a movie, just because he/she is in it? Personally, I’ve always been of the opinion that separating the actor/actress on screen from the man/woman off screen is the most reasonable thing to do.

  1. Tom Hanks & James Franco.

I have no idea why I dislike Tom Hanks, but the other is a pretentious smirking douche canoe.

Aaah… Each to their own… but there are so many fantastic Tom Hanks films, some of my favourites like Big, Apollo 13 and the Green Mile to name but a few.

I used to despise Leonardo DiCaprio when he was a young adult in shit like The Beach but after Blood Diamond, just WOW!

EDIT: In fact it started with The Departed and The Aviator

Before The Departed, my biggest problem with Leo was that he didn’t look a fully grown adult. He was a man-child.

    Kirsten Dunst. I can’t stand her face – I don’t think it’s anything specific, but I really just don’t like it…

It’s her teeth. They’re teeny tiny creepy baby teeth.

I’m weary of anything with Jennifer Lawrence in it, mainly because the hype of the film don’t always match the results. American Hustle, for example, was really overrated.

I enjoyed American Hustle quite a bit, but while it was great, it certainly wasn’t “clean up at the awards” great. Same can be said for J-Law’s performance.
If there’s performance in that movie that deserves all the awards though, its Christian Bale’s comb-over. It was mesmerizing.

I think it’s the actor as well as the type of role, and with an actor like Tom Cruise, you know what you’re going to get. You’ve ‘watched’ that movie so many times… why watch it again? so I skip his stuff (although this new film looks somewhat different, which appeals to me)

Other actors like Adam Sandler I just don’t enjoy since Happy Gilmore or Wedding Singer, let alone find funny, they’re all the same… so I actively avoid his films.
