Midweek Mouth-Off: The sequels that should (or shouldn’t) have happened

Life’s not fair, we know this. Sometimes, really awesome movies deserve a sequel and it just never happens.  As Kervyn wrote yesterday, we know this happened with Karl Urban’s Dredd 3D, a damn fine movie with great reviews that failed at the box office, so the chance of getting more out of the franchise was scuppered. Even though it was basically an origin story, we’ll sadly never get to see what happens next.

On the other hand, you have a movie like Horrible Bosses. While it was a decent movie in its own right, to me it told a complete story and the idea of having a sequel just seems… pointless. Like what happened with Ocean’s Twelve and Ocean’s Thirteen. They didn’t need to carry on the story, and they probably shouldn’t have.

So our question this week is: what movies do you think never got the sequel they deserved, and which sequels so you wish were never made?

All the Highlander sequels, not only are they bad, but they make no sense given the nature of the story itself.

I’d love to see a sequel to District 9. Also what ever happened to The Incredibles?

I didn’t see the Highlander movies (I know, feel free to mock me) so I wouldn’t be able to comment on that. But ohmigosh yes The Incredibles 2 would rock so hard. Instead we got Cars 2 and Planes 🙁

Not even the first one? It’s been a staple of SABC & ETV repeats for how many years. 😉

Not even the first one. Oh the eternal shame!

I’d defend Highlander 2 just a little. It was daft, yes, and the whole Quickening thing… but it was at least fun to watch. Now the third one needs to be scrubbed from our world.

Yeah, Highlander 2 is a bit of a guilty pleasure, even if it poops all over the established mythos.

What the hell is Michael Ironside doing nowadays? He needs to play more crazy baddies!

The Dark Knight Rises. It was a poor movie when compared to Nolan’s other two Batman films.

On the other hand, I’m sad Predators never went further. And I am one of few, but I really wanted to see Machete in Space.

I completely agree with all 3 of those.

Ma-Che-Te! If they just did a whole two hours of him, the chameleon assassin and Luchador Gibson, I’d be happy.

Alien: Resurrection(Alien 4) should be burned…along with son of the mask. For me, most sequels where the the only goal is a direct-to-video/dvd money spinner.
