Midweek Movie Mouth-off: Do you even watch horrors on Halloween?

It was the night of Halloween and all was quiet… except for the raucous parties at select entertainment venues. For one magical evening slutty nurses, KISS band members and people who hired completely impractical suits converged for drunken celebrations – because that is what Halloween is all about!

Cosplay is really just Halloween without the ability to blame alcohol for decisions like this.

Fun fact: the holiday is from Europe and has its links to some ancient Pagan religions. Instead of pumpkins people used to carve turnips. All the cool stuff – dressing up, begging for candy, playing pranks – is from there. The only real connection with Mexico’s Day of the dead or Día de Muertos (and not Cinco de Mayo, which is actually the anniversary of a military event) is the 31 October date.

Anyway, Halloween – supposedly the horror event of the year. Yet a glance at both our and overseas charts shows that horror movies don’t do particularly well over Halloween weekend. Does anyone even make a point of watching horror films on the 31st of October? I didn’t. The closest I came to that was Man from U.N.C.L.E., which wasn’t terrifying – just flashy, hollow and had less chemistry than a bottle of water sitting on a shelf.

So while Tracy is on a well-deserved break, that’s our question for this week: do you even watch horrors on Halloween? If you don’t, why not? If you did, what was it?
