Midweek Movie Mouth-off: let’s hear about the little guys

We’ve had a crazy week for new trailers. Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Fantastic Four, Jurassic World and Mad Max: Fury Road. Seeing as so many massively hyped big budget movies have been dominating our headlines, I thought I’d dedicate this week’s Midweek Movie Mouth-Off to the little guys, those movies you might not have heard about but are still worth seeing.

My pick for this is The Book of Life and the reason it’s one of the little guys is it’s opening on Friday, so of course you’ll all be at Avengers: Age of Ultron instead. But in case you can’t get tickets to that, give this little movie a chance instead.  Produced by Guillermo del Toro (this man is a genius) and voiced by Diego Luna, Zoe Saldana and Channing Tatum, The Book of Life is a charming animated film about a young man torn between following his dreams, and following his family’s ambitions. Throw into the mix a rivalry between friends over the heart of a beautiful girl and two Spanish spirits with a wager on the outcome. I can’t tell you just how gorgeously detailed, witty and down-right heart-warming this film is, you’ll just have to see it for yourselves.

So, that’s my choice, now over to you. What movies are you excited to see that hasn’t been overhyped, or even hyped at all? Tell us about the cinema gems you’re looking forward to this year that we might not have heard about otherwise.

I actually found this great post just yesterday that talks about a lot of fantastic upcoming movies from this year that aren’t as well known as the big names.

Ex Machina is a big interest for me. Looks great. We watched the trailer for Slow West the other day and it also looks like it’s gonna be good. It’s still just amazing how many heavy hitters we are getting this year. A new avengers, Jurassic Park/World movie and a new Star Wars all in one year. Marty Mcfly had no idea what year he was headed for

The movie with Sam L Jackson and the kid where he is the president looks fun.

And yes I forgot the name cause I currently only have Lightsaber wielding dinosaurs in iron suits on my brain. 🙂
