Midweek Movie Mouth-off: what are you watching on Halloween?

Well, this sucks. Halloween is on a Monday this year?! That’s the worst day of the week it could possibly fall on! I hope that everyone still has plans to watch at least one spooky Halloween movie the weekend before?

There have been a lot of horror movies that have come out this year, so you’ve got a lot to choose from. Some were not so good, like The Forest and The Other Side of the Door. Others were semi decent, like Blair Witch, and on the much better side of things, we got The Conjuring 2 and Don’t Breathe. We even saw the release of a local horror movie, The Actor.

This year, though, I’m in for a “treat”. My friends have decided they will be subjecting me to the highly rated Lights Out. You know, the movie that’s based on that short story that I couldn’t even finish in broad daylight because it freaked me out so much? Yes, that one. So this should be a lot of fun. For my friends in any case.

Are you going to be watching one of 2016’s plethora of horror movies? Or will you be scaring up a classic? Either way, let me know in the comments what you plan on watching on Halloween.

Am I the only one that really, really hated The Conjuring 2? It jumped the shark like a beast.

I haven’t seen it, or the original. The first one is on Netflix, I’ve been tempted, but I need someone to watch it with me!

The first one is so nice, I almost canned my horror screenplay after seeing it

I will be doing my bit to ensuring the next generation is not the coddled, cotton-wool swaddled bunch of pansies they are all becoming. Last year I watched The Witches with my 10 and 7 year olds, which did indeed scare them. (I mean, fair play, Angelica Huston is pretty terrifying, but that’s part of growing up! Being a bit scared!) But did I listen to their whimpers of fear? No, I did not. Well, I did. But I ignored them. Because it’s for their own good. This year, possibly Gremlins. (Or any other suggestions?)

Excellent! Ghostbusters 2 scared the crap out of me when I was a kid, you could always go for that.

I tried Ghostbusters 1 but they ran out the room when the library ghost appeared.

The first Conjuring is great… well, at least until the end. Paranormal Activity 2 and Sinister are good bets. If I’m watching anything this year I think it’ll be that wonderful little anthology Trick R Treat.

My friend Sean has recommended Trick R Treat before, it’s apparently really good? I enjoyed Krampus, which I think was by the same director.
