Welcome to 2015! If, unlike me, you had loads of free time over December, I hope you managed to get to the cinema to see some of the excellent films that came out in the last few weeks of 2014.

As a terribly infrequent movie-goer, I only managed to get to the cinema once during the December holidays, to watch John Wick. I’m glad that I did, and all I can say is if you haven’t seen it yet, you seriously should!

So what was your December entertainment? Did you finally find time to see The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies? Did you brave the cinema with the whole family to watch Big Hero 6? Or did you take your Significant Other to watch Best of Me and regret your life choices? Let us know!

I finally watched Transformers Age of Extinction – that entertained me in a brain switched firmly off way.

Caught up on the last 5 or so DC animated movies. They’re good.

Watched Young Justice – that was good. Loved the long story arcs, so sad it was cancelled.

Watched Luther – that was AMAZING. First season was definitely the best though.

Watched the first 2 parts of Ascension, still need to catch the 3rd. It’s not bad at all, I’m quite proud of myself for calling the big reveal at the end of the first part.

Saw in the new year with Grand Budapest Hotel. Pretty good choice for that.

    John Wick rocked my boat.
Hobbit was okay, awesome at the IMAX though.
    Nightstalker is freaky
    Awaiting is a great thriller
Finished Ascension, to say I was, no, I can’t say it…
Watched Guardians of the Galaxy again, awesome!

    Boxtrolls – Excellent movie.
100 Bloody Acres – Great dark horror comedy from Oz.
The Babadook – Spooky horror, also from Oz.
Attack Of The Indian Werewolf – Local film. Either awful or genius, depending on your state of inebriation.

Europa Report – Good found-footage space drama.
The Taking of Deborah Logan – Good found footage horror that falls flat in its third act.

Housebound – Quirky horror comedy that turned out to be good fun.
Lucy – Not what I expected, but still very awesome.
The Three Musketeers – Old-school Disney gag animation at its best.
Oldboy (2014) – Very interesting and competent spin on the original.
We Still Kill The Old Way – A perfect example of how to make a truly terrible movie.
Return To Nukem High – Even by Troma standards this was painful.
Timecrimes – Brilliant little time travel film.
Wolfcop – Not for everyone, but I dug it.
Fire In Babylon – A doccie so good it even makes cricket look interesting.

John Wick was the most enjoyable of the 3 I went to see.
Liked Exodus actually. Didn’t go in expecting a blockbuster full of action.
Was not really impressed with Hobbit. The first 10-15 minutes belonged at the end of the second movie. That would have made nr 2 feel like a complete movie and nr 3 like less of a money grab.

You know they did that for the marathon-ready extended scene boxset :p
