For someone that writes for a movies website, admittedly I don’t watch a lot of movies. I keep current with the news, but I have some serious gaps in my movie education. So it’s never a surprise to my friends when they say “have you seen insert movie title that literally everyone has seen?” and I say no. What is a surprise is when I can say I’ve seen a movie that most other people haven’t seen or heard of yet, and I get to feel like a total hipster about it – much like our resident Cinophile, James, must feel all the time.
The movie I generally use for this is Fido. If you’ve never heard of it, it’s a movie about zombies that have been turned into household slaves by a corporation, starring Billy Connolly and Carrie Anne Moss. It’s totally weird and unexpected, but it’s really funny and it’s really, really good. I haven’t met anyone that’s seen it before I recommend it to them.
It’s always fun to find out about obscure movies that you wouldn’t usually watch, so let’s hear it from you. What movie do you love that no one has heard of before?

Based on the actors involved (Tim Robbins and Paul Newman) and the fact that its from Coen Bros, The Hudsucker Proxy really shouldn’t be an obscure film. And yet, over the years, I’ve met so few people that have actually seen this little gem.

Sho, this is a hard one 🙂 Can’t think right now as I’ve seen too many weird movies.

Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind for me I think; an absolute gem and many a person I’ve spoken to has not heard of it let alone seen it.

I love Eternal Sunshine! One of my top ten movies for sure

Oh yes, and Baraksamsara… I’m not too sure that it qualifies as a typical “movie” really – with nothing but visuals and music, no script, no “plot” as such, it still has a story to tell, and I’d recommend it.

Anything by Jim Jarmusch before Broken Flowers (when people started to take notice). Hard to pick a favourite though but I usually recommend Coffee & Cigarettes.
