After two weeks where it pretty much conquered the international markets, the latest James Bond escapade exercised a license to thrill as it tore through the North American box office. There was no doubt that Bond was going to make some money, but after the last weekend, Auric Goldfinger would have been better off raiding cinemas if he seen the following results.
- Skyfall – $87.8 Million
- Wreck-It Ralph – $33 Million
- Flight – $15.1 Million
- Argo – $6.7 Million
- Taken 2 – $4 Million
- Here comes the boom – $2.55 Million
- Cloud Atlas – $2.52 Million
- Pitch Perfect – $2.5 Million
- The man with the iron fists – $2.49 Million
- Hotel Transylvania – – $2.3 Million
At over $87 million, Skyfall easily trounced the opening weekends set by Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, beating their three day totals of $40.8 Million and $67.5 Million respectively. That’s the fourth largest opening of the year, just behind The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises and The Hunger Games.
Wreck-It Ralph dropped to second place, while it’s closest family friendly rival, Hotel Transylvania, fell from 7 down to 10 on the charts. The man with the iron fists is busy struggling to keep it’s momentum, as it’s now languishing at number 9 at the box office, a steep fall from it’s fourth place debut last week.
Taken 2 remains strong in fifth place for another week, adding $4 Million to it’s already impressive international take of $348 Million, while Here comes the boom saw a surprising jump from ninth place back into sixth.
Guess more people want to see Kevin James get pummelled than we thought. He might be onto something here. Which is why Kervyn and myself will be funding a third Hostel movie that stars the most detestable actors of the decade being butchered.
Hell, we spend 90 minutes alone breaking the achey-breaky heart of Billy Ray Cyrus. Profit!

Sorry to burst your bubble, but there is already a Hostel III (straight to dvd 2011). Maybe Hostel IV then?
