It’s still a slow time at the North American box office, as blockbuster season is over. Or at least until Christmas rolls around. New entries over the weekend included dancing, Ben Affleck and and an old classic returning. Here’s how they all did.

Kidnapping drama Prisoners took the first place slot with ease, beating dance it up contender Battle of the year. Prisoners clocked in over $21.4 million, making this one of the more successful adult-orientated films of the year so far. Insidious Chapter 2 experienced a 64% drop in revenue, as well as a decline into second place for that horror film. Here’s how everyone else did over the weekend.

  • Prisoners – $21.4 Million
  • Insidious Chapter 2 – $14.5 Million
  • The Family – $7 Million
  • Instructions not included – $5.7 Million
  • Battle of the year – $5 Million
  • We’re the Millers – $4.6 Million
  • Lee Daniel’s The Butler – $4.3 Million
  • Riddick – $3.6 Million
  • The Wizard of Oz – $3 Million
  • Planes – $2.8 Million

Departures this week saw Percy Jackson bugger off alongside Elysium and One Direction: This is us. Playing at 318 locations, the return of The Wizard of Oz on IMAX screens drew sizeable crowds. Looks like there’s still some magic in those ruby slippers, as the $3 million take was higher than that of other 3D re-releases such as Top Gun and Raiders of the lost Ark.
