We’re on an ark yo! Noah took top spot this past weekend, beating Divergent into second place with it’s biblical adaptation epic tale of man vs nature. Banking $44 million, Noah may not have made a massive splash, but it did create a strong opening for Russel Crowe after recent flop films failed to ignite the box office. Arnie Scwharzenegger fell foul of some sabotage however, debuting at number seven with $5.3 million. That’s the worst debut yet for a new Arnie film, and way behind flicks such as The Last Stand and Escape Plan.
- Noah – $44 Million
- Divergent – $26.5 Million
- Muppets Most Wanted – $11.3 Million
- Mr Peabody and Sherman – $9.5 Million
- God’s Not Dead – $9 Million
- The Grand Budapest Hotel – $8.8 Million
- Sabotage – $5.3 Million
- Need For Speed – $4.33 Million
- 300: Rise of an Empire – $4.3 Million
- Non-Stop – $4 Million
Top ten departures this week include The Lego Movie and Tyler Perry’s The Single Mom’s Club. I don;t give a toss about the latter, but The Lego Movie has done some awesome business finishing an eight week run with $400 million in the bank from around the world. On the International front, Captain America: The Winter Soldier opened up in several foreign territories. So far, it’s banked $75 million around the world on opening weekend. Expect that result to climb even higher when it opens in US markets.

“Get down” No, he didn’t mean down the charts… Sigh.

Glad to see Noah is doing well. A pity about Arnie’s movie, but the stuff he’s been appearing in were all considerably dull. Last Stand sounded the most interesting, but then it only spent about a third of its time around Arnie and his sidekicks.

The reviews for Sabotage have been particularly savage, with most calling it a complete stinker. I just can’t believe how a writer/director of David Ayer’s talent, with such a talented cast could produce a movie with virtually no redemption. I’ll check it out for myself on Thursday.

I just scanned the RT critics summaries and they seem rather conflicted, other than for the levels of violence. Maybe it’s a good film at the wrong time?

Could be. At least there are a couple of bright-ish spots in those reviews now. When I checked RT last week, it was just negativity everywhere.

Based on the trailer I’ve watched, I’m still keen to get a look at it.
