Monday Box Office Report – The charts get some Lawless Possession

It was a quiet weekend for the Western box office, as the Americans preferred to use their Labour Day weekend for other pursuits. New arrivals saw Shia LaBeouf grab a Tommy Gun and get to work in a Depression Era America, while audiences flocked to see some spooky action in The Possession. But which one came out on top?

The Possession beat Lawless by a narrow landslide, raking in the top honours this week and sending the bootlegging crime drama to second place. The Bourne Legacy also saw a drop, alongside the geriactioners from The Expendables 2, while Premium Rush dropped out of the top ten after a mere week after release. Here’s a look at who made what this past weekend.

  • The Possession – $17.7 Million
  • Lawless – $9.6 Million
  • The Expedables 2 – $8.8 Million
  • The Bourne Legacy – $7.2 Million
  • ParaNorman – $6.5 Million
  • The odd life of Timothy Green – $6 Million
  • The Dark Knight Rises – $5.8 Million
  • The Campaign – $5.4 Million
  • 2016’s Obama’s America – $5.1 Million
  • Hope Springs – $4.7 Million

The Dark Knight Rises finally surpassed the billion dollar mark after six weeks, putting it in 14th position, two spots away from the first sequel, starring Heath Ledger. Looks like Warner Bros will get to have that money bath this year after all.
