The weekend may be over, but that doesn’t mean that Hollywood is unhappy about it. Another period of going to the cinema has resulted in more money being spent, while several newcomers, from axe-wielding presidents through to a Scottish lady with a bow to pick attempted to grab the top spot.

The latest epic from Pixar Animation, Brave, proved to be a solid draw for crowds over the weekend, edging out Madagascar 3 and keeping new arrival Honest Abe and his axe-fu in second and third place respectively.

Steve Carrell’s doomsday flick, Seeking a friend for the end of the world, made a disappointing splash in tenth place, while Adam Sandler and Will Smith saw their films drop a few spots, closer towards the bottom of the list.

Here’s a full look at who made what this past weekend;

  • Brave – $66.7 Million
  • Madagascar 3 – $20.2 Million
  • Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter – $16.5 Million
  • Prometheus – $10 Million
  • Rock of Ages – $8 Million
  • Snow White and the Huntsman – $8 Million
  • That’s my boy – $7.9 Million
  • The Avengers – $7 Million
  • MIB 3 – $5.6 Million
  • Seeking a friend for the end of the world – $3.8 Million

On a curious note, ten years ago the first MIB sequel was also patrolling the charts, albeit in a healthier fourth spot position, while another Tom Cruise project, Minority Report, was in ninth place, with Adam Sandlers’ blue collar billionaire flick Mr Deeds, was staying strong in sixth place.

The more things change, the more they stay the same, we guess.
