Think Will Ferrell pumping up with small Kevin Hart reps could conquer the box office? Ha! Hell no! That honour went to to Dreamworks Home instead, which much like an RKO from WWE superstar Randy Orton, came outta nowhere. Taking first place with $54 million from North American ticket sales, Home hit the sweet ballpark as other animated films such as Big Hero 6 ($56.2 million) and The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water ($55.4 million).
It’s also one of the best non-sequel Dreamworks movies produced in quite a while, just behind Kung Fu Panda ($60.2 million) and Monsters Vs. Aliens ($59.3 million). In second place, Get Hard clocked in over $34.6 million according to US domestic estimates, playing at 3175 locations. That’s damn good, and the opening ranks as the third all-time among the many live-action Ferrell movies, and second for Kevin Hart’s in a leading role, just behind Ride Along. When Furious 7 arrives next week, the film will most likely dip, but it’s well on track to get a total of around $100 million in domestic sales.

Top ten departures this week include Focus and The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water. Focus made a decent $134 million so far, but the real win here belongs to an invertebrate who lives in a pineapple under the sea. The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water made over $287.9 million internationally. That’s even better than the original 2004 movie, which made over $140.1 million worldwide. Not bad at all that.
