I have to admit something to all of you. I don’t think there is an easy way to say it so here today, on The Movies, I will just have to come right out with it: For most of my life, I’ve missed out on the entire Muppets phenomenon and I really didn’t know what all the fuss was about…until recently.

Phew, that wasn’t easy to say, but I’m glad it is out in the world now. However, after watching the previous Muppets film, revived by Muppets-enthusiast and funnyman Jason Segel at the helm, I finally caught on to why the Muppets are universally loved by young and old…they are hilarious as a medium and somehow they capture just the right amount of heart to make them equally endearing. This is why I can unapologetically and proudly state that I’m quite excited about the next installment in the franchise…and it definitely has something to do with the fact that it stars Tina Fey as a Russian prison guard, Ty Burrell as an interpol agent and Ricky Gervais as Dominic “Number Two” Badguy (it’s french…).

With no further adieu, here’s the brank new trailer:

Where other slapsticks have failed, I have quite a lot of faith in the Muppets to pull out all the comedic stops and with a myriad of hilarious and unexpected cameos to add to the mix, I’m sure we won’t be disappointed. All I know is, I hope Beaker gets to be in it as well. He’s my favourite.

  1. I watched The Muppets quite a bit as a kid, I never found it particularly funny.
