Netflix is making a modernised adaptation of The Three Musketeers

Some stories are timeless. They may originally be set in a certain time period, but there is something about its characters, theme and plot that is applicable to whichever time period you want to set it in. One such story is Alexandre Dumas’ classic 1844 novel The Three Musketeers, which despite being set in France against a monarchy from more than 150 years ago, still feels entertaining and relevant to this day. Mostly thanks to its characters, d’Artagnan, Athos, Porthos, and Aramis who are all very human and flawed in character.

So relevant in fact that you could probably apply many of its concepts into today’s world of the mega-rich and probably still make all the elements fit. Which is exactly what Netflix is doing as The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that the company is making an adaptation of the classic story, but with a modern setting.

To make things even more interesting though, Netflix is describing this new movie as having a very Mission: Impossible tone to it. Now whether that is referring to the first movie which was a little more of a slow burning thriller or the latter movies which have become high- action attempts of Tom Cruise trying to kill himself at every turn, is unclear. I have personally loved the latter take on the franchise and if Netflix can turn this property into an action movie that can compete with that, I would be thoroughly impressed. If they can maintain the type of characters found in the book, we will at least know the story should be a decent one to go along with it.

The Three Musketeers doesn’t have a release date just yet and it appears it has yet to begin production, which does make their comparison to Mission: Impossible a little bold. Hopefully it’s a prediction that proves to be true.

As long as it’s nothing like that remake they did. Gawd that was terrible.

Given Netflix’s application of its SJW ideology to other stuff in recent history, I have my doubts

Colour me curious – I would love to see this, although, I will miss the more classic setting of the original iterations.
