The Amazing Spider-Man has been steadily winning me over to it’s rebooted side with that latest trailer as well as the recent Lizard featurette. As much as I enjoyed the two Sam Raimi films (What do you mean there’s a third? Clearly you need to stop eating your crayons. There was no Spider-Man 3.), I’m somehow just getting more of a true-to-the-comic book vibe from this, despite the fact that this reboot is deviating so much from the source history.
And that is all down to how director Marc Webb and Andrew Garfield are paying homage to those classic Peter Parker/Spider-Man traits and character moments, as can be seen in this new 4-minute preview scene from the film.
Giving that little boy his mask is such a truly Spider-Man thing to do. While the rest of the 4 minutes is mostly just a rehash of footage from the previous trailer (look closely though and you’ll notice an extra few scenes of Lizard footage), that single opening scene tells you everything you need to know about Spider-Man. He is the ultimate selfless hero who shares the most intimate connection with the scared people he’s trying to rescue. He’s not an ubermensch sun-god like Superman or a shadow-cloaked boogie-man like Batman. He’s just an ordinary guy with extraordinary abilities who will put it all on the line to help those in need.
One of the world’s most popular characters is back on the big screen as a new chapter in the Spider-Man legacy is revealed in The Amazing Spider-Man. Focusing on an untold story that tells a different side of the Peter Parker story, the new film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Campbell Scott, Irrfan Khan, with Martin Sheen and Sally Field. The film is directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay written by James Vanderbilt, based on the Marvel Comic Book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. Laura Ziskin, Avi Arad, and Matt Tolmach are producing the film in association with Marvel Entertainment for Columbia Pictures, which will open in theaters everywhere in 3D on July 3, 2012.
