Looks like today is “New Comic Book Movie Pics Day” and somebody forgot to give me the memo. Earlier this morning we had some new Deadpool snaps courtesy of Empire, and now the magazine is doing the same for the competition as it reveals some new pics for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Muscles.

The first pic has Henry Cavill’s action-figure physiqued Superman totally just stalking brooding in what appears to be “the burnt-out ruins of Wayne Manor”, and judging from the super-scowl on that face he definitely doesn’t like what Bruce Wayne has done with the place. According to what direct Zack Snyder told Empire, “In this movie, everyone has split into different directions as to how they feel about this alien. Some people love him, some hate him. Other people fear him. Is he a tyrant?” With those muscles he can damn well be what he wants to be, if you ask me.

According to Snyder, “There is just this gravitas to Batman… He is operatic”. In this pic Batman is busy using the famous Bat-signal – “a legacy from the Commissioner Gordon era” – to try and lure in Superman. Somebody should tell him that Superman is a Kryptonian, not a moth.

But just to prove that Snyder can actually create movies with a palette that doesn’t just consist of 50 shades of grimdark, Empire has also revealed this new pic of Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor going full-on Silicon Valley hipster, complete with loafers and bad hair. And according to the magazine, “like Professor Xavier in X-Men, the hair gets its own arc in this franchise”.

Empire has an in-depth all-access exclusive article coming out soon, covering an on-set visit, interviews with the principal cast and crew, as well as new info about the production including how BvS – and specifically the other Justice League members like Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman and Jason Momoa’s Aquaman – fits into the greater shared DC Comics Movie universe that Warner Bros are creating. For now though, Snyder will only reveal that they have a plan, but one that is not that creatively rigid.

“I want all the other directors of the other films to be able to stretch their legs and do what they want, but at the same time there is a big interconnected universe.”

Finally, Empire have also unveiled the cover to their special issue covering the movie, revealing that along with his parents when he was a child, Bruce Wayne has also now lost his neck.
