In what is sure to cost parents an arm and a wing in merchandise once again, the cash in highly anticipated movie adaptation of insanely popular mobile game Angry Birds has just released some more pictures, this time including the green pigs! Yay? I don’t know what I just wrote. I mean, video games have been used as a source for movies for years now, usually because there was an interesting narrative and some cool mechanics that may work well on screen, but a game like Angry Birds, with no narrative? Well, I say no narrative, but we know they are angry, and it has something to do with pigs.

Game developer Rovio and Sony Pictures (via Entertainment Weekly) have released three new pics from the movie that casts about as much light on the plot as Trevor with a box of broken light bulbs. I will say one thing though, the pork looks mean, and green, and… Who am I kidding the pig has a beard, haha!

So what’s it all about? Well, producer John Cohen (Despicable Me) answers that with:

The question Rovio gets more than anything is ‘Why are these birds so angry? This is the origin story for how that conflict came to exist between birds and little green piggies.

Now it would be very easy to dismiss the movie as nothing but an over-reach of the franchise (an over-reach that has actually lead to quite a few of Rovio’s staff being retrenched, but that’s a story for another day) but if you look at the voice cast it makes one sit up and take note. Playing the birds and bees pigs are: Jason Sudeikis (We’re the Millers) as Red; Josh Gad (Frozen) as Chuck; Danny McBird McBride (This is the End) as the Bomb; Bill Hader (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs) as a pig (not sure if it has a beard…); Maya Rudolph (Bridesmaids) as Matilda and Peter Dinklage (he so rocks in Game of Thrones!) as Mighty Eagle.

Quite an impressive lineup. As cynical as I am (and I AM) this may turn out to be a bit of fun. Then again it may turn out to be a limp-wristed throw of a bird! You’ll have to wait till 1 July 2016 to find out. Squawk!
