New images from Wrath of the Titans

There are a few new images out for Wrath of the Titans, the sequel to 2010’s Clash of the Titans remake. Wrath sees Sam Worthington reprising his role as half-god Perseus, as he sets out to defeat the titular Titans before they can kill the gods. He also has to rescue his father, Zeus – Lord of the Gods – from his imprisonment in Hades’ domain.

I don’t think that Perseus should make that second bit a priority though, as judging from these pics all that Hades is doing is forcing Zeus to wear MC Hammer pants while watching him do the macarena.

On second thought, Perseus better get a move on, as that’s some seriously cruel and unusual punishment.

I’m really looking forward to Wrath, as all indications thus far seem to be that this is the film that the decidedly average Clash was trying to be. The story and characters all seem to have been given the kick in the godly pants that they needed, and hopefully new director Jonathan Liebesman can bring his A-game. Liebesman’s previous effort, Battle: Los Angeles, was hamstrung by a cliched script and cheesy dialogue, but the director redeemed the film slightly by showing a deft hand for structuring action sequences. Let’s hope his turd polishing skills are not needed here.

But if they stuff this up again, the heavens will tremble with my nerd rage.

Here’s the full synopsis:

A decade after his heroic defeat of the monstrous Kraken, Perseus (Worthington) –the demigod son of Zeus (Neeson)–is attempting to live a quieter life as a village fisherman and the sole parent to his 10-year old son, Helius. Meanwhile, a struggle for supremacy rages between the gods and the Titans. Dangerously weakened by humanity’s lack of devotion, the gods are losing control of the imprisoned Titans and their ferocious leader, Kronos, father of the long-ruling brothers Zeus, Hades (Fiennes) and Poseidon (Danny Huston). The triumvirate had overthrown their powerful father long ago, leaving him to rot in the gloomy abyss of Tartarus, a dungeon that lies deep within the cavernous underworld. Perseus cannot ignore his true calling when Hades, along with Zeus’ godly son, Ares (Edgar Ramirez), switch loyalties and make a deal with Kronos to capture Zeus. The Titans’ strength grows stronger as Zeus’ remaining godly powers are siphoned, and hell is unleashed on earth. Enlisting the help of the warrior Queen Andromeda (Rosamund Pike), Poseidon’s demigod son, Argenor (Toby Kebbell), and fallen god Hephaestus (Bill Nighy), Perseus bravely embarks on a treacherous quest into the underworld to rescue Zeus, overthrow the Titans and save mankind.

Wrath of the Titans opens locally in 2D and 3D on 30 March 2012.
