Hey it’s déjà vu time. Again. As I’ve pointed out before, it’s very easy to draw comparisons between Jake Gyllenhaal’s Enemy and Jesse Eisenberg’s The Double.

They both have shy and timid protagonists meeting unexpected doppelgangers with polar opposite personalities, and to confuse matters between the two even more, it turns out that Enemy is loosely based on a novel by José Saramago called… The Double.

But, while Eisenberg’s The Double might be leaning towards a darkly humorous black comedy, the new red-band trailer for Enemy is definitely living up to its psychosexual thriller label. Moving away from showing us anything plot-wise, the very Not Safe For Work trailer below is all about the sex and nudity, with some super creepy images of spiders thrown in for good measure.

“Enemy” tells the story of a university lecturer named Adam (Gyllenhaal) who is nearing the end of a relationship with his girlfriend Mary (Laurent). One night, while watching a film, Adam spots a minor actor who looks just like him. Consumed by the desire to meet his double, Adam tracks down Anthony, an actor living with his pregnant wife Helen (Gadon) and engages him in a complex and dangerous struggle. The film is a haunting and provocative psychosexual thriller about duality and identity, where in the end only one man will survive.

Directed by Denis Villeneuve and co-starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Sarah Gadon, Melanie Laurent and Isabella Rossellini, Enemy opens in limited theatres in the States on March 14.
