One of the more anticipate TV series is the X-Men spinoff Legion, being developed by FX. But fans can rest a little easier now knowing that the adaptation of the popular Marvel comic series finally has a premiere date for you to plan your watching schedule behind. And that date is set for Wednesday, February 8, so it’s not too far away either.
But that’s not all that they revealed as a new trailer for the series was also released, giving us a nice back-drop of what we can expect from the series opener as it lays down the platform for some mutant action:
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the story behind Legion, the series follows the story of David Haller (Dan Stevens), a troubled young man who may be more than human. Diagnosed as schizophrenic as a child, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. A haunted man, David escapes from the hospital and seeks shelter with his sister Amy (Katie Aselton). But Amy’s concern for her brother is trumped by her desire to protect the picture perfect suburban life she’s built for herself. Eventually, Syd guides David to Melanie Bird (Jean Smart), a nurturing but demanding therapist with a sharp mind and unconventional methods. She and her team of specialists – Ptonomy (Jeremie Harris), Kerry (Amber Midthunder) and Cary (Bill Irwin) – open David’s eyes to an extraordinary new world of possibilities.
From the sounds of it, this will be a decent origin story to the world of the X-Men and although the trailer is a little light on action, I’m assuming that once they set the platform, there will be reveals of more mutants and action that will take place.
There is a lot of background for what could make an exciting TV series. Particularly focusing more on the internal struggle the mutants face trying to adapt to their evolved states. Something which the movies couldn’t really get to spend enough time on. After the middling last few X-Men movies, I think we deserve a decent mutant story. Legion might not be that savior, but hopefully its still a lot of fun.
