I’m in peak review mode right now. Everything, everything in my life has now fallen in a category of scoring, as if I were some demented Mega-City One cop who was judging all the porcelain in the house while attempting to master a power-slide in DiRT Rally. And I’m going to master that power-slide, even if I have to fall off my chair another hundred times as my body automatically mimics the movement on screen in front of me as I violently fail to turn left yet again.

Look, I have no idea where this thread is going, but it’s just another Monday for me.

In Other News: Dark Souls dark sells well, crowdfund the return of a legacy machine, Destiny updates with some Sterling and the DOOM beta isn’t being too well-received.

Here’s the news that we didn’t post today, because I was too busy being sentenced for making rally bad puns about that new DiRT game. Crap, that’s another ten lashings.

  1. “as I violently fail to turn left yet again.” The tragic story of why D had to give up his dream of becoming a NASCAR driver.

But what if Nascar was in SA, would we then go “right” around the track?

Nascar…..that’s even worse than WWE. Real sophisticated men watch F1 or play Gran Turismo.

There are two types of Doom players. Those that grew up with Doom and those that did not. By the sound of it, if the MP is anything to go by, they are making Doom for the latter, which is wrong. WRONG AF I say!

And a third group who grew up with it, but had mothers who were in the loop to fast about “violent games turning your son into a mindless killer for satan” and could not play it.

I belong to the former, BUT I also don’t cling to old ideas and notions. The MP landscape has changed DRASTICALLY since the original. And let’s not forget, they did in fact deliver on their promise. They said nothing about a Q3A or DOOM1 remake wrt the MP.

There is a lot of weight behind what you’re saying, id is responsible for most of what we see as the modern day shooter, from the simple fast paced action through to the multiplayer, all the way to the weapons and the health system(non regenerating), even the bulky protagonist with the over eager will to mash faces to a pulp was something that put them in the lead, but that was 20 odd years ago, nothing short of silicon carbide (and Riaan Cruywagen), can withstand 20 years without change, whether that be that it’s feet stink a little more when it goes to bed or it just being wiser about what type pf rotten tuna not to eat, there will always be change, for better or worse, it’s our choice to accept it or not, me, I liked the multiplayer to a point, but was annoyed at having two weapons at a time and I wish the Beta had more, unfortunately it’s shifted my opinion to a “not day one sale”, which probably means I’ll get it on day three or seven, but still, a few minor changes and they’d be winning back the hearts of the old and maybe even get a few new young players in…

They’re just making a game they know will give them huge amounts of $$$ by using formulas they see working on the audience of today.
I guess this isn’t 1990’s anymore where games were made out of passion and showed pride, and money was just a bonus.

COD is big, too big. It’s so big that developers has to take them into consideration when developing a game.

Well said. I think that DOOM was always meant as a great SP experience and I still crank it up to this day occasionally. If the SP can maintain the speed I saw in the beta this last weekend I think we could be in for a pretty decent game and if there is a GoW Horde type mode it could be just the thing for the old school gamer’s. DOOM 3 also had very limited MP appeal in it’s day.
