The last time Nicholas Hoult had to chase somebody/get chased by somebody in a car, it was in a dry post-apocalyptic wasteland, and he was spray painting his gob to get a witness for his arrival in Valhalla. Luckily, things have mellowed out a bit since then. Well, relatively mellow at least, as Hoult’s latest movie contribution still seems pretty action-packed.

Collide may not boast a red jumpsuit wearing guy in a bungee harness riding a truck made of speakers while playing a flamethrower guitar (which is always a pity), but it does have one hell of a cast surrounding Holt, who plays a desperate ex-crook character forced back to his criminal ways to try and save a loved one. Recent Oscar winner Felicity Jones stars as said loved one, who seriously needs some money for a life-saving medical procedure. Ain’t that always the brakes?!

Backing up Holt and Jones are a pair of sirs who also boast some Oscar gold on their mantlepiece: Sir Anthony Hopkins as the big bad character who ends up getting crossed – and very cross – by those aforementioned criminal ways; and Sir Ben Kingsley as a crazy and colourful gangster.

That’s a damn good cast. And it may need it as going by this first trailer for Collide, it doesn’t look too innovative in the narrative department. It does look reasonably exciting as far as action is concerned in a Sunday night 8pm M-Net movie kind of way though.

Check out the trailer below.

After a heist goes terribly wrong, Casey Stein (Hoult) finds himself on the run from a ruthless gang headed by mob boss Hagen (Hopkins). Now Casey has precious cargo that belongs to Hagen, who will stop at nothing to retrieve it. Left with no choice, Casey calls his former employer and drug smuggler Geran (Kingsley) to protect his long-time girlfriend Juliette (Jones) before Hagen gets his hands on her. Casey sets out on an adrenaline-fueled car chase on the German highways to save the love of his life before it’s too late.

Collide is directed by Eran Creevy (Welcome To the Punch) who also co-scripted with F. Scott Frazier (The Numbers Station). It opens internationally on August 19, 2016.
