Nintendo 3DS to only have 3 hours battery time

We’ve made no bones about our love for the Nintendo 3DS here at Lazygamer and to a man every one of us is dying to get our hands on the end product.

However as with anything in life it can’t all be good news and there has to be some negative to bring us back to reality, but did this one have to be so bad?

Nintendo have announced today that the battery times for the Nintendo 3DS when utilising the 3D functionality will be between 3 and 5 hours… that’s not even enough to get us to Durban by car which is more than a little worrying.

Not to mention long haul flights which is the mainstay of my DS usage.

When it comes to gaming without the 3D effects the news isn’t much better with it then being able to handle a mere 5-8 hours which is worse than the current DS console. Obviously the better graphics are entirely to blame for this (that and built in WiFi) but I did expect more than 5 hours of gaming time per charge.

A charge that takes 3 1/2 hours as well, which is once again nothing to sneeze at.

To combat the negative press (sorry Nintendo) they are going to be releasing a charging station with every 3DS along with the advice to recharge it as soon as you are done. Whether you can play while it’s charging hasn’t been announced yet but if it’s a charging station I would lean towards that not being possible.

Is this enough reason to hold off on getting a first gen version of the 3DS? I’d like to say absolutely not but I have to admit I am worried…

    Only one analog stick?

    And that battery life?

I wonder if this handheld will end up as nothing more than a gimmick just like the Wii.

The Wii is still the top selling console and has pretty much shrugged off the gimmick moniker quite a while back.

Which after 4 years is quite something…

It has also sold 77 million units which is just a little more than a gimmick in my book. If it can keep strong this year it could even break the 100 million mark

patcher predicted this will stomp the psp 2

since HE predicted it im fairly certain, infact im 100% convinced that the PSP2 will STOMP on the 3DS

3DS games will cost almost the same as ps3 or xbox 360 games
the graphics suck dont believe the hype, except for resident evil game and some nintendo games the rest of the games are sub standard and shocking ports!!!!

the 3DS will cost more than an XBOX 360!!!!

this is such a fail, Nintendo did a sony!
